Phil Spencer does not see virtual reality in the future of the Scarlett project

Virtual reality (RV) is a scene environment or simulated object of real appearance. The most common sense refers to an environment generated by computer technology, which creates the feeling of being immersed in it in the user. Said environment is contemplated by the user through a device known as glasses or virtual reality helmet. This can be accompanied by other devices, such as gloves or special costumes, which allow greater interaction with the environment as well as the perception of different stimuli that intensify the feeling of reality.

Previously, Sony had clearly indicated that the PlayStation VR would be part of its PlayStation 5 future, without however explaining to what extent. Meanwhile, it seems that Microsoft s Scarlett project borrows another way.

Talking to Stevivorphil Spencer, head of the Xbox, explained that the next console of society would not focus on virtual reality.

I have the problems with virtual reality, he explained. It s insulating and I consider the games as a collective experience, such as a common experience. We meet what our customers are asking for and ... nobody asks for virtual reality.

The statement of Spencer is a slight change of course with respect to what he had said in the past, noting that virtual reality could arrive at Xbox One X once she came out of the phase Demos and Experiences .

The vast majority of our customers know that if they want to live a virtual reality experience, there are the places to go and get them, he continued. We see the volumes of those on PC and other places.

Part of this decision comes from virtual reality sales. He pointed out that no one sells the million and the million units in this market.

I think we could get there (possibly), he concluded. But yes, it s not our goal.

Microsoft has developed its Xbox Game Studios studio portfolio in the last two years, including The Studios such as Ninja Theory and Obsidian Entertainment. Their interest can be centered on the general experiences of the next generation, rather than on those based on virtual reality.

It may be a good thing for the best, since the PlayStation VR, although profitable, is not really a gangbuster on the market.

The Scarlett project should be put on the market during the 2020 holiday season.
